GROUP TRIP

In the summer of 2023, our team from Anne Education USA received the opportunity to travel to Pursat, Cambodia in person and collaborate with the teachers and administrators of Anne School to volunteer, teach English, and deliver several educational materials purchased through donations to several schools across the province.

With the help of our donors, 4 laptops were able to be donated to Mouly Tuolvat Primary School, Anne Kindergarten, Jummoni Village School, and Don Ey Primary School. In addition, 9 whiteboards went to the Pursat Church School, Floating Village of Kompong Luong, Jummoni Village School, and Don Ey Primary School and a cell phone was donated to Anne School. Lastly, over 500 books were donated to schools across the province to be used by students and teachers in the furtherance of their English education.

At several of these schools, our team also led classes teaching the English language to kindergarten to highschool level students at Anne School, Mouly Tuolvat Primary School, Srah Srong Village School, the Floating Village of Kompong Luong, and Jummoni Village School through dances, songs, books, and games.

Lastly, our team visited over 80 families in Pursat villages and 20 families in the Floating Village of Kompong Luong to deliver food supplies to families in need.

Village in Pursat

In a village in Pursat, we distributed food to the local households. Unfortunately, some families were unable to make it to the distribution point, so we visited their homes to personally deliver the food. During these visits, we encountered heartbreaking stories within these families. In one household, an elderly member had recently suffered a stroke and was unable to leave the house. The family couldn’t afford a wheelchair for him, adding to their struggles. Another devastating story involved a very young teenage girl who had experienced a traumatic event – she was a victim of rape and subsequently became pregnant. Tragically, her newborn baby passed away from unknown causes, leading to severe mental distress for the teenager. She had been tied to a ridgepole of the house because no one was able to provide the care she needed. In yet another household, the breadwinner had suffered a stroke in December of the previous year. When he saw that we were there to offer food, he expressed his gratitude despite his speech difficulties. In situations where a father or mother, who brings home the family’s income, faces health issues, the entire household experiences significant financial hardships due to the absence of available government aid. The 10-year-old son of this family goes out to work every day and earns about $1.50 a day to support his family.

Srah Srang Village

This village is known as the Trash Dumping Village, where children live in worse conditions than children in any other village. We conducted a brief English Phonics/Reading lesson in the front yard of one of the students’ houses. Afterwards, the students enjoyed snacks and a ‘sing-along dance-along’ session. They have a regular class here with a St. Anne School teacher once a week.

Afterschool class at Pursat Catholic Church

We donated a whiteboard and money to purchase Khmer-English books for students.

Mouly Tuolvat Primary School

We donated a laptop to the school and conducted an English Phonics class with all the students and enjoyed a fun game together with it!  Afterward, we had a ‘sing along dance-along’ class.

Jummoni Village School

We donated a laptop and replaced whiteboards for teachers and students and provided them with snacks after a brief English lesson in the playground.  The school principal awarded Anne Education USA a Certificate of Appreciation for our donations

Home Visits to St. Anne School teachers and staffs

We visited the homes of teachers and staff in the village and donated food for their families. During our visits, we learned an inspiring story about a gardener at St. Anne School.  He learned how to write Khmer at St. Anne School and now teaches the village children who have never had opportunities for learning.  He does this every day after returning from work.

Floating Village in Kampong Luong

We provided them with an in-class English lesson. This school is located within the Catholic church, which floats on the lake. We donated food to some families, a whiteboard for the school, and snacks for the students.

Don Ey Primary School

This is a new school that St. Anne School started assisting this year. We donated two white boards since all their old chalk boards were in unusable condition.  We were glad that students and teachers can have clean letters on the boards.

St. Anne School in Pursat, Cambodia

This is St. Anne School, located in Pursat, Cambodia, and operated by the Sisters of Christian Education Convent. Here, village children can receive extended education after regular school hours. Our teachers provide instruction in English, music, art, Cambodian language and mathematics, as well as traditional Cambodian dance. After classes, students get snacks after school.   Furthermore, St. Anne School has plans to establish a dormitory for the children’s secondary education in the future. We are in need of assistance to make this project a reality.  St. Anne School operates a ‘Elephant’ convenient store selling snacks, Cambodia Post Cards, and other Souvenirs made by Village students.  During our visit Summer 2023, we made donations of a mobile phone, English Books, and snacks to enable the teachers to conduct English education.  Also, during our visit, some of us provided English lessons to the students in the classroom and shared our life stories to motivate them for their education.  One of our youngest donors gave $100.00 to St. Anne School, allowing all the students to have an ice cream party.

St. Anne Kindergarten : Donation

We donated a laptop to St. Anne Kindergarten.  This school is a non-profit organization and offers free education and day-care to little children in the community. The children sang ‘Little Star’ in English, and they were absolutely adorable.
